Roasted To Order: What It Actually Means
August 14, 2026 · Andrew Carver
Coffee is a fresh product. It has a peak, and that peak is short. A bag that sat in a distribution center for four months is not bad coffee, it is just old coffee, and old coffee tastes flat no matter how good the beans were.
At Mean Bean nothing is roasted until an order lands. Your beans hit the drum after you check out, get flavored if you asked for flavor, get bagged, and go out the door. That is why we say small batch and mean it: most batches are for one person.
The trade off is honest. You wait a day or two longer than you would for a shelf bag. What you get back is coffee that still smells like something when you open it.
